This page describes what couchrig.com collects and what happens to it. It is not legal advice, and it should be reviewed by a qualified professional before anyone relies on it.

Reading the site

You can read every public page here without an account and without being individually tracked.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics on most pages. It is cookieless, it does not fingerprint your browser or follow you across other sites, and it does not build a profile of you. What we see is aggregate: how many people opened a page, what referred them, which browser and country they came from, and how fast pages loaded (Core Web Vitals). It is not loaded on shared wishlist pages, the alert unsubscribe pages, or the account deletion pages.

Why there is no cookie banner

Our analytics set no cookies. CouchRig sets two cookies, both strictly functional. While you are signing in, a short-lived HttpOnly sign-in state cookie lasts up to 10 minutes and is cleared as soon as sign-in completes (or fails). After you sign in, an HttpOnly session cookie keeps you signed in for up to 7 days or until you sign out; its value is random and we store only a hash of it.

If that ever changes - if we add something that tracks you - you will get a real choice about it, not a banner engineered so that “accept” is the only easy button.

If you give us your email

The newsletter signup and the contact form both use Cloudflare Turnstile to filter out bots. The newsletter stores your email address so we can tell you when there is something worth telling you about. That is the only thing it is used for. It is never sold, never rented, and never handed to a sponsor.

Being straight with you: right now nothing is sent at all. We are capturing addresses and have not mailed the list once. When that changes, every email will carry an unsubscribe link. Until then, ask us and we will delete your address.

If you make an account

You sign in with your Loadkit account (the Rig universal login). CouchRig never sees or stores a password. When you sign in we keep a member record with your Loadkit id, your email, whether that email is verified, and your display name, refreshed from Loadkit each time you sign in. Signing in also creates a CouchRig session, which stores a hash of the session token, your browser's user agent and when the session expires.

You can add a builder profile with a public handle. The credit on a build you publish shows your Loadkit display name, as last refreshed when you signed in; if you have a builder profile it links to your public page at /builders/<handle>.

If you submit a build, we store what you typed and the photos you uploaded. Photos live in object storage (Cloudflare R2). Published builds are public, which is the point of submitting one. The contributor terms cover what we can do with them and how to get them taken down.

Wishlists and share links

Your wishlists are private to you. If you create a share link, anyone who has the link can read that wishlist without signing in. A shared page shows the wishlist's name, its parts (including any custom part names you typed), the resolution, and your handle, or “a CouchRig member” if you have no handle - never your email. Share pages are marked noindex so search engines are asked to skip them, and you can revoke a link at any time; a revoked link stops working.

Price alerts

Any signed-in member can set a price alert, but we only email verified addresses. An alert stores what you are watching, your target price, whether it is still active, a private token for the unsubscribe link, when it was created and cancelled, and, if it triggers, the price and time it triggered. A notification record keeps whether we have emailed you, with send attempts and any send error. When a price drops below your target we email you once; you can cancel any alert in Your rig or with the link in the email.

Being straight with you: alert emails are switched off by default and go out only when we enable sending.

If you contact us

The contact form stores what you wrote, your name and email, your company if you give one, and which page you came from if you arrived by a “report a correction” link. It is stored so a message cannot be lost to a mail outage - we would rather answer you late than never know you wrote.

We keep it while the conversation is useful and delete it when it is not. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will.

Who else touches it

• Cloudflare - hosts the site (Workers), stores its data (D1), holds uploaded build photos (R2), provides DNS, and runs Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views in aggregate. Cloudflare processes that data on our behalf.
• Loadkit - the account service you sign in with. It holds your account and password; CouchRig receives your id, email, verification status and display name.
• Resend - sends the email: price alerts to you, and a notification to us when a contact message arrives, with your message and address in it. Not switched on yet: today a contact message is stored and we read it in the admin, and alert emails go out only when sending is enabled.

About the AI

We use Anthropic and OpenAI models to draft part specs from public manufacturer pages, and Anthropic to draft game write-ups from published hardware reviews - see the editorial policy for how that works and what checks it.

No reader or member data is sent to either of them. Not your email, not your account, not your messages, not your browsing. They receive public hardware documentation and nothing else.

Your data, your call

Delete your account yourself

In Your rig, open the Account tab, choose Delete my account and confirm by typing “delete”. It cannot be undone. This removes:

• your builder profile and handle (your handle is also removed from correction credits)
• your wishlists and their share links
• your build drafts and builds still waiting for review
• your uploaded photos that are not shown on a published build (deleted from storage; if that fails we keep retrying)
• your price alerts
• your CouchRig sessions on every device
• your CouchRig member record
• your RigBench community runner's access (its results stay, and benchmark submissions are unlinked from you)

It keeps:

• builds we already published, with their photos, credited to “a former member” and no longer linked to you
• part, game and device suggestions you made, accepted or pending, anonymised
• your Loadkit account itself, which is managed in Loadkit, not here - you can sign in to CouchRig again later and start fresh

Anything else

Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it - including your newsletter address, contact messages, or a build you want taken down. Use the privacy request form and say what you want. You do not need to give a reason and you will not get a retention offer.

The surest way to reach us is the contact form with “Privacy or takedown” selected - that is stored the moment you send it.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us data, use the privacy request form above and we will remove it.
