This page describes what couchrig.com collects and what happens to it. It is not legal advice, and it should be reviewed by a qualified professional before anyone relies on it.
You can read every public page here without an account and without being individually tracked.
We run a self-hosted copy of Umami for analytics. It is cookieless, it does not follow you across other sites, and it does not build a profile of you. What we see is aggregate: how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world they were, and what referred them.
Because there is nothing to ask you about. The analytics set no cookies at all, and the only cookie the site ever sets is the session cookie that keeps you signed in after you sign in - which is strictly necessary for a feature you asked for, and exempt from consent requirements.
If that ever changes - if we add something that tracks you - you will get a real choice about it, not a banner engineered so that “accept” is the only easy button.
The newsletter signup stores your email address so we can tell you when there is something worth telling you about. That is the only thing it is used for. It is never sold, never rented, and never handed to a sponsor.
Being straight with you: right now nothing is sent at all. We are capturing addresses and have not mailed the list once. When that changes, every email will carry an unsubscribe link. Until then, ask us and we will delete your address.
An account stores your email, a display name, and a password hash - we never see your actual password. The display name is what appears as the credit on any build you publish.
If you submit a build, we store what you typed and the photos you uploaded. Photos live in object storage (Cloudflare R2). Published builds are public, which is the point of submitting one. The contributor terms cover what we can do with them and how to get them taken down.
The contact form stores what you wrote, your name and email, your company if you give one, and which page you came from if you arrived by a “report a correction” link. It is stored so a message cannot be lost to a mail outage - we would rather answer you late than never know you wrote.
We keep it while the conversation is useful and delete it when it is not. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will.
We use Anthropic and OpenAI models to draft part specs from public manufacturer pages, and Anthropic to draft game write-ups from published hardware reviews - see the editorial policy for how that works and what checks it.
No reader or member data is sent to either of them. Not your email, not your account, not your messages, not your browsing. They receive public hardware documentation and nothing else.
Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it - including your account and any build you have published. Email hello@couchrig.com and say what you want. You do not need to give a reason and you will not get a retention offer.
The surest way to reach us is the contact form with “Privacy or takedown” selected - that is stored the moment you send it.
How that actually works today: there is no delete-my-account button. A person does it by hand when you ask. On a site this size that is the honest answer - a button that did it for you is worth building, and is not built.
This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will remove it.
